Cycling in and around Sintra
With a densely forested large hill right on the door step of all the accommodation, it’s no surprise that we have fantastic mountain biking.
From just a cruise through the woods to strenuous XC riding or extreme DH and north shore, you will find it all in the woods of Sintra.
There is a great local company, www.sintrabiking.com, who specialise in mountain bike holidays, guiding and bike hire.
They have a large range of bike available to hire, starting with sturdy mountain bikes with front suspension, which will suit most people's needs, from as little as 15 euros per day.

If you are a real bike connoisseur, they also have high-end Specialized Epic and Whyte carbon fibre bikes available at very reasonable prices (around 30 euros per day, depending on the exact spec of the bike).

All will be delivered and picked up from your chosen accommodation.
Ralph is a keen mountain biker and downhill rider himself and will be more than pleased to point you in the right direction, whatever your riding style. Click here to see the what’s available for the downhill/ northshore rider.
If you wish to be guided, Sintrabiking are very flexible and can tailor a half or full day's riding to your exact needs, at any standard of fitness.
A whole load of fun is their Top of the Mountain to Cabo do Roca mountain bike experience (35 euros per person). You collect a bike and start the ride at the very top of the hill, just outside the Pena Palace and are guided through 25kms of quiet mountain roads and gentle off-road trails going softly down hill 99% of the time, so no pedalling effort is needed.
You'll end the ride at the dramatic most westerny point of Europe, Cabo da Roca, with a light snack.
A simple public bus ride will bring you back to the accommodation at Sintra or Praia das Maçãs.
